Notorious Kollam thief Paki Subair strikes again; police on the look out for him

Haripad (Alappuzha): With a notorious thief from Sooranad, Kollam, Paki Subair (51), targetting his familiar locations here again after a gap of almost two years, the police are on an all out effort to nab him.
Subair, who has been undergoing jail term after being convicted for a series of robberies at Haripad and Karuvatta in January 2022, was released from prison recently, only to return to his old habits.
Within a week, five shops at Karuvatta, two at Haripad and some houses were robbed, besides the theft attempts at some houses in the area. The police have confirmed Subair’s identity from the CCTV footage.
According to the police, Subair is presently at large.
On the previous day, a shop at RK Junction on the National Highway was robbed. There were also several burglary attempts made in the area.
The police have gathered footage showing Subair walking along the road east of RK Junction late at night. On the same night, there was an attempted robbery in the houses east of Manimangalam temple.
In 2022, Subair stole six grams of gold jewellery from a house at Karuvatta. This time, he targeted shops nearby Karuvatta.
He also had committed thefts at Bethel Marthoma Church in Akamkudi and a nearby temple besides stealing a two-gram bangle from a house. Again, recent robbery attempts have been made in the same area.
At night in Kollam, in Haripad by morning
Subair's modus operandi involves alighting from night trains and walking along the tracks. His base is in Kollam. He committed a theft near Kollam railway station last night while the police were conducting an extensive search for him at Haripad. By morning, he had made his way to Haripad and committed another theft. His solitary actions and avoidance of mobile phones make it difficult for the police to track him.
Subair is skilled at hiding in bushes near railway stations. In response to a previous spate of thefts in Akamkudi, the Haripad Police cleared the bushes along the railway tracks.
Commits theft, takes a bath
According to the police, Subair has a peculiar habit of taking a bath after committing thefts. He repeated this routine after his recent thefts at Haripad and Karuvatta. He usually bathes by fetching water from a well or using an outdoor bathroom. In a previous arrest, Subair revealed that he prefers to bathe in the early hours when household members are asleep.
Police team without sleep
A special investigation team, led by Haripad SHO K Abhilashkumar, has been formed to apprehend Subair. Several cops are involved in the investigation. They have gathered information about Subair's past thefts in various districts, including Kollam.
Two years ago, Mavelikkara Police arrested him. Subair typically travels by bus and train during the day, making it difficult to locate him as he does not stay in one place for long.
