22-year-old unmarried woman gives birth; lover kills and buries baby in Alappuzha

Ambalapuzha (Alappuzha): In yet another shocking incident, a newborn baby has been killed and buried in a field allegedly by its own father in Thakazhi here. Two persons, including the father, have been taken into police custody in this connection.  

The duo are identified as Thomas Joseph (24) of Randupara Puthanparamb in Thakazhi and his friend Ashok Joseph (24).

As per their statements to the police, the two buried the baby in a field at Kunnummavandepuram in Thakazhi. The spot guarded by the Thakazhi Police will be inspected in the presence of Poochakkal Police.

According to the police, a 22-year-old unmarried woman gave birth to a baby girl at her home in Poochakkal here at around 1:30 am on August 7. Then she hid the baby on the sunshade of her house. Later the baby’s father with whom the young woman is said to be in a relationship took the baby away.

The whole thing unfolded when the woman sought medical treatment at a private hospital in Kochi on August 10. When the doctors inquired about the baby, the woman stated that her boyfriend took the baby away and left it in the Alappuzha ‘Ammathottil’. The doctor then informed the police. 

During the investigation by the police, it became clear that the baby was not left in the ‘Ammathottil’. When the young woman was interrogated in detail, she revealed more details about her boyfriend. 

Then on Saturday at around 10:30 pm, the police took the man into custody. During interrogation, he confessed to have killed and buried the baby along with his friend.
