Kozhikode: Four men were arrested for assaulting a KSRTC bus conductor at the Kozhikode bus terminal in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The incident happened on a bus travelling from Kannur to Madurai at around 2:30 am. The assailants, who were reportedly drunk, demanded that the bus head to Iritty in Kannur district, despite it being bound for Madurai.

According to passengers, the four men boarded the bus in an intoxicated state and insisted that the conductor change the route and take them to Iritty. The conductor clarified that the bus was heading to Madurai and not Iritty, but the men refused to listen. This led to an argument between the conductor and the group, which escalated into violence.

During the altercation, the gang physically assaulted the conductor. The driver and security personnel, who attempted to intervene, were also attacked by the group. Locals present at the KSRTC bus terminal witnessed the scuffle and stepped in to restrain the attackers.

The locals handed them over to the Nadakavu police. Both the conductor and the driver, who sustained injuries in the attack, have lodged a formal complaint with the police.
