Relative douses 2-year-old with petrol and sets her on fire in Idukki

Idukki: A disturbing incident unfolded in Painavu on Wednesday when a man poured petrol over a two-year-old girl and set her ablaze. The grandmother, who tried to save the child, was also injured. 

The injured are Annakutty (57) and her granddaughter Diya, natives of Painavu. Santosh, a resident of Kanjikuzhy, stands accused of the attack.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. It is suspected that family problems are the reason behind the attack. Annakutty is Santosh's mother-in-law, and Diya is his wife's brother's daughter. 

Locals rushed to the rescue after they heard noises from the house. The child sustained burns covering 30 percent of her body, while Annakutty also suffered injuries and was promptly admitted to Kottayam Medical College. The accused fled the scene.
