Shillong: A local court here has remanded Sonam Raghuvanshi and four of her alleged accomplices to eight days in police custody in connection with the suspected murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, authorities had initially requested a 10-day remand for all five accused. The court, however, approved eight days of police custody.

Sonam, 24, was taken into custody from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, while her four alleged co-conspirators were arrested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. They were brought to Shillong under transit remand, with Sonam arriving late Tuesday night and the others on Wednesday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) leading the probe has sought custody to facilitate a reconstruction of the crime scene at Sohra (Cherrapunji), where the incident is believed to have taken place.

Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife were reported missing on May 23 while vacationing in the scenic Sohra region. After days of search operations, Raja’s body was found in a gorge on June 2. A case of murder was registered soon after, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

The SIT has also been granted a six-day remand for the four accused from Indore and three days for Sonam to assist in further investigation.
