Gurugram: In a shocking act of domestic violence, 25-year-old state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was allegedly shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav (49) at their home in Gurugram on Thursday.

According to police officials, Radhika was in the kitchen on the first floor of their double-storeyed residence in the upscale Sushant Lok Phase 2 area of Sector 57 when her father allegedly fired multiple rounds at her using a licensed .32 bore pistol. Preliminary reports indicate that she was shot in the back while cooking and died on the spot. Her mother was reportedly on the ground floor at the time of the incident.

Police confirmed that Deepak Yadav has been arrested, and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. He is a resident of Wazirabad village in Gurugram.

“We are questioning the family members. A probe is underway and the picture will be clear soon,” said Inspector Vinod Kumar, SHO of Sector 56 police station. Investigators said the motive behind the murder is still unclear, though initial reports speculated that a relationship Radhika was involved in may have been a point of contention.

Radhika was a well-known figure in Haryana’s state-level lawn tennis circuit and had won several medals in her sporting career. She also ran a tennis academy, mentoring young athletes and offering professional coaching.

The brutal killing has left the local sports community and neighbourhood in shock, with many mourning the loss of a promising young athlete. Further investigation is ongoing.
