Alappuzha: Authorities on Wednesday exhumed the body of a 48-year-old woman in Kerala, four days after her death, following a complaint by her daughter accusing the woman’s husband of murder.

VC Siji had been undergoing treatment at Medical College Hospital since Jan. 8 after she was brought in by her husband, Sony, and daughter with a head injury. The family claimed she had fallen down the stairs. Her condition deteriorated, and she died on Feb. 9.

After the funeral, an argument broke out between Sony and their daughter, who later approached the police. In her complaint, she alleged that she had witnessed her father assaulting her mother and banging her head against a wall.

She also told the police she did not disclose all these details to the hospital authorities as her intention was to save her mother’s life.

Following the complaint, police took Sony, a trader who runs a utensils shop in Alappuzha, into custody for questioning.

Siji’s body was exhumed on Wednesday and taken to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
