Dubai modelling assignment used as trap; 2 women arrested in Kochi human trafficking case

Kochi: Two women, identified as Sindhu and Aleena, have been arrested by Maradu police in connection with a human trafficking case. The alleged crime was carried out under the guise of a modelling assignment.
Police said the arrests followed an investigation based on a complaint.
Allegations of exploitation during Dubai trip
According to the complaint, the victim was taken abroad on the pretext of a modelling opportunity. She was allegedly exploited by multiple individuals after reaching Dubai.
Investigators said the victim was presented before several people as part of the alleged exploitation.
It is further alleged that she was given drugs after arriving in Dubai. Nude photographs were then taken, which were later used to threaten her. Police said this pressure was used to force her into further exploitation.
Probe points to wider network involvement
Police said preliminary findings indicate the involvement of a larger network behind the incidents. Investigators also received information suggesting that more women may have been trapped by the same group, and additional complaints have now come in.
Among those arrested, Aleena has a prior criminal case history. She was earlier an accused in a bar clash in Vyttila in November last year.
Police also said the accused have links with hired goon gangs operating in Kochi.
