Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police have received the court's appreciation in the Sharon Raj murder case. In a case with no eyewitnesses, the court praised the investigative team for their skillful integration of circumstantial evidence to prove the defendant's guilt. The court noted that the investigation was highly efficient and aligned with contemporary methods. It also stated that the defendant was unaware that she herself was carrying the evidence from the moment the crime was committed until the police apprehended her.

The investigation into the Sharon Raj murder case presented the Kerala Police with a series of unprecedented challenges. Though it was initially claimed that Sharon died due to poisoning, no traces of poison were found in his body or clothing. Furthermore, Sharon did not reveal anything about the poison or about Greeshma until his final moments, which posed a challenge for the police.

In the meantime, Sharon’s internal organs were severely damaged by burns, and his body was in a condition where even water could not penetrate. This raised doubts among both doctors and family members that the substance ingested was not merely a decoction. Even then, Sharon did not suspect Greeshma. However, on the morning of his death, while in the ICU, Sharon spoke to his father about the events that had occurred.

Sharon’s brother, Shimon, an Ayurvedic doctor, had repeatedly asked Greeshma what decoction she had given Sharon. However, Greeshma attempted to mislead Shimon by sending photos of the wrong medicine bottle and other materials.

Knowing that consuming a decoction would never lead to death, Shimon began to have suspicions and requested the police to conduct a more scientific investigation. Conversations with Greeshma, along with WhatsApp chats about the medicines, helped with the investigation. The investigating officers have confirmed this.

The statement of Rijin, who had brought Sharon near Greeshma’s house on the day of the incident, was also crucial. Rijin testified that he saw Sharon coming out of the house, looking pale, and then took the weakened Sharon back to his house. This testimony played a critical role in the case. Additionally, scientific evidence led to the submission of a sealed charge sheet.

The police were able to uncover numerous pieces of evidence, including photos, videos, and chats from the phones of both Sharon and Greeshma. Expert opinions, including those from doctors, further substantiated the conclusion that the incident was indeed a murder. Thus, what could have been dismissed as food poisoning turned into a murder case.
