Chhattisgarh shocker: 4-year-old hung from tree by teachers for not doing homework

Raipur, Chhattisgarh: In a shocking incident, a four-year-old student at Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir in Surajpur district was reportedly stripped, tied up with a rope and hung from a tree on the school campus for failing to complete his homework, according to an NDTV report.
A video of the incident, filmed by a local resident from a nearby rooftop, shows the child dangling from a tree while crying and begging to be freed, as two women teachers — identified as Kajal Sahu and Anuradha Dewangan — stand close by. The clip went viral on social media on Monday, prompting swift action from authorities.
The incident took place at a private school in Narayanpur village, which offers classes from nursery to Class 8. According to media reports, nursery teacher Kajal Sahu became enraged after finding that the student had not completed his homework.
She allegedly expelled him from the classroom before tying his shirt with a rope and hanging him from a tree on the campus. The child reportedly remained suspended for hours while crying and pleading to be let down.
Family members claim the school displayed extreme negligence. Santosh Kumar Sahu, a relative of the boy, condemned the incident as inhumane and demanded stern action against those responsible.
Following the public outcry, Block Education Officer (BEO) DS Lakra visited the school to conduct an inspection. He said an inquiry report will be submitted to senior officials for further action. District Education Officer (DEO) Ajay Mishra confirmed receiving information about the incident and said appropriate proceedings have begun.
In a separate incident, a 15-year-old girl died by suicide inside the study room of a private school in Jashpur district after allegedly accusing the institution’s principal of molestation and sexual harassment, officials said on Monday. The principal has since been arrested.
The Class 9 student was found hanging from a ceiling rod using a saree on Sunday evening at the school located in a village under Bagicha police station limits, Jashpur Senior Superintendent of Police Shashimohan Singh said. The girl, originally from the Sitapur area of neighbouring Surguja district, was residing in the school’s hostel.
A suicide note recovered from the scene levelled accusations of molestation and sexual harassment against the principal, identified as Kuldipan Topno, prompting police to take him into custody, the SSP said. A case has been registered, and an investigation is in progress. (With inputs from PTI)
