Why did Bengaluru father kills his two minor daughters? What we know

Bengaluru: A 40-year-old man allegedly killed his two minor daughters inside a five-star hotel near Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport before attempting suicide, police said.

The girls, Shaik Zehara, 5, and Shaik Zoya, 10, were found dead inside a fourth-floor hotel room on Monday. Their father, identified as S G Imran, was found seriously injured with a cut to his throat and was taken to a private hospital for treatment.

Police said Imran had allegedly strangled the children before attempting suicide.

Hotel staff alerted police

Imran had checked into the hotel at around 7.30 pm on Sunday, telling staff that he was expecting a guest from Dubai after midnight.

When he did not check out the following afternoon, housekeeping staff knocked on the door at around 12.30 pm. They received no response. A second attempt at around 4.30 pm also went unanswered.

The hotel manager eventually opened the room using a duplicate key at around 5.30 pm and found the children dead and Imran seriously injured.

Note mentions marital dispute

Police recovered a note from the room that allegedly referred to marital problems and accused Imran's wife of having an extramarital affair.

Investigators are examining the note and other evidence to establish the circumstances and motive behind the deaths.

Investigation under way

DCP North East Bengaluru GK Mithun Kumar said Imran, around 45, confessed to killing his two daughters, aged about 10 and 8, allegedly by strangulation. Police recovered a note that he admitted writing, referring to a marital dispute and disagreement over the children's custody. Police said his wife also confirmed that the couple had been arguing over custody.

The girls were found unresponsive on a hotel bed after staff opened the room when there was no response. Imran was found injured in the bathroom and taken to hospital. Police said he is out of danger. The post-mortem reports will determine the next course of the investigation, while officers are also examining other possible angles.

Investigators are also contacting family members and examining the evidence recovered from the hotel. The case remains under investigation, and the allegations in the note have not been independently established.
