Mumbai: Mumbai Police announced on Sunday that senior officers from the Crime Branch are interrogating two suspects arrested in connection with the recent shooting of Baba Siddique. The suspects, Karnail Singh from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh, are believed to have been paid in advance for their role in the attack, and they reportedly received a delivery of arms just days prior.

According to police, the accused conducted reconnaissance of Siddique's residence and office over a period of one to two months before the incident. They have been questioned by Crime Branch officials for more than eight hours.

Authorities are actively searching for a third suspect, with multiple teams deployed to investigate the case further.

A case regarding the incident has been registered at Nirmal Nagar Police Station under crime registration no. 589/2024, sections 103(1), 109, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 3, 25, 5, and 27 of the Arms Act, and sections 37 and 137 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

Former Member of the Maharashtra Assembly and NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot multiple times with a 9.9 mm pistol. The attack occurred amid the noise of firecrackers during a Durga Visarjan procession, providing cover for the gunfire that many nearby did not hear.

Following the shooting, Siddique was rushed to Lilavati Hospital at 9:30 pm in critical condition, showing no pulse, cardiac activity, or blood pressure. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts and ICU care, he was declared dead at 11:27 pm.
