Man arrested after twisting doctor's hand during treatment at Alappuzha Medical College

Ambalapuzha: In yet another incident of attack on female medics, a youngster has been taken into police custody for physically assaulting a doctor who was offering treatment at Alappuzha Medical College. 

The youngster was identified as Shaiju (39), a native of Thakazhi village in Alappuzha. 

House surgeon Dr Anjali at the surgery and emergency department of the hospital fell prey to the atrocious acts of the youngster.

The incident happened on the day of ‘Thiruvonam’, at around 6:30 PM. Shaiju who had sustained injury on his forehead the previous day in a drunken fall had arrived at the hospital for dressing. 

As Dr Anjali tried to stitch the wound, he resisted uncontrollably, eventually twisting her hands. He also apparently used foul language.

The doctor has given a statement alleging that the perpetrator was in an inebriated condition at the time of the act. The accused was produced in the court and sent to remand. A notice has also been sent to the district police chief regarding this by the Human Rights Commission. V.K. Beenakumari, a member of the commission, has asked to conduct an investigation and provide a report within 15 days. :
