Actress Athulya Chandra arrested after doctor allegedly beaten, confined and robbed in Kochi

Malayalam actress and lawyer Athulya Chandra has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault and robbery involving a young doctor in Kochi.
Two other people have also been arrested in the case, which has triggered considerable attention because the victim was allegedly called to an apartment on the pretext of providing urgent medical assistance.
The incident reportedly took place on November 2. According to the complaint, Chandra, who was acquainted with the doctor, contacted him claiming that her maternal aunt was experiencing health complications and needed immediate medical attention.
She allegedly asked him to visit an apartment in Kochi to examine the patient.
Responding to the request, the doctor reached the apartment around 6.30 pm, expecting to treat someone in need of medical care. However, the situation allegedly took an unexpected turn when he entered the premises.
Instead of finding a patient awaiting treatment, the doctor reportedly encountered a group of people inside the flat. The complaint states that as many as 12 people, including Chandra, were present.
The doctor was allegedly prevented from leaving the apartment and threatened by those present.
The first accused, identified as Bibin, allegedly struck him in the face. The other members of the group subsequently joined in, assaulting the doctor while he was made to sit on a chair.
The complaint further alleges that the attackers took away his mobile phones and other personal belongings. The value of the stolen mobile phones alone has been estimated at approximately Rs 3 lakh.
After managing to leave the apartment, the doctor approached the Kadavanthra police station and filed a complaint.
The police subsequently registered a case and initiated an investigation into the alleged assault and robbery.
Police have since arrested Chandra and two others in connection with the case. According to available reports, a total of 12 people have been named as accused, with nine others yet to be apprehended.
Investigators are now examining the circumstances that led to the alleged attack. Police are also investigating the identities and possible roles of the remaining accused as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The case has drawn attention to how the doctor was summoned to the apartment.
His decision to respond to what appeared to be an emergency medical request from an acquaintance allegedly placed him in a situation that ended in an assault and robbery.
Further investigation is underway, and the police are expected to establish the sequence of events and the individual roles of those named in the complaint.
