Man accused of chainsaw attack on two schoolgirls shot, arrested in Andhra Pradesh

The man accused of attacking two Class 10 students with a chainsaw inside a government school in Andhra Pradesh was shot and arrested by police on Sunday after he allegedly resisted arrest and attacked the personnel who tracked him down.
The accused, identified as Hemant, was found hiding in the Atmakur forest area in Anantapur district. Special police teams moved in after receiving information about his whereabouts. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he allegedly attacked them, prompting the police to open fire.
Police fired six rounds, according to sources. Hemant sustained serious injuries and was taken to the District Government General Hospital in Anantapur for treatment.
There were also reports that the Raptadu Circle Inspector was injured during the encounter. This could not be independently confirmed immediately.
Two students injured in school attack
The arrest follows the October 31 attack in which Hemant allegedly assaulted two Class 10 girls with a chainsaw inside a government school in Raptadu.
One of the students suffered severe injuries, including the loss of her right hand, deep wounds and multiple fractures. The other girl was injured while trying to protect her classmate.
The critically injured student was first taken to Anantapur Government General Hospital. She was later shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru through a green corridor for advanced medical care. Her condition was reported to be stable.
