Where is Akhil C Varghese? Man behind Rs 3 crore fraud in Kottayam

Kottayam: The police have issued a lookout notice against Akhil C Varghese, the accused in the case of allegedly extorting Rs 3 crore from the Kottayam Municipal Corporation.

The phone numbers of the district police chief and the district crime branch DySP have been given in the notice.

Akhil had been absconding after the fraud came to light. The probing team also faced criticism for not being able to arrest Akhil even after three weeks of filing the case. In the wake of these developments, the crime branch has issued a lookout notice. Meanwhile, it is suspected that the accused might have escaped abroad.

During the annual financial audit, it was uncovered that a huge fraud had taken place in the Kottayam municipality. The case is that Akhil has defrauded more than Rs 300 crores from the time he was handling the pension department when he was working in the Kottayam Municipal Corporation. After the fraud was found in the inspection, the municipal secretary lodged a complaint with the police.
