An 11-year-old minor girl was gang-raped and brutally murdered by four individuals on Saturday afternoon in Baruipur, with a preliminary post-mortem report now revealing that the victim was still alive when she was dumped into a pond.

The autopsy, conducted at the Katapukur morgue on Sunday, indicates that the child was subjected to severe physical torture before being stuffed into a gunny bag and thrown into the water while unconscious.

Autopsy Confirms Chilling Details

According to police sources, the preliminary medical findings point to horrific sexual assault and a critical head injury, suspected to have been caused by a heavy object or by being violently slammed against a hard surface.

Medical examiners noted multiple scratch and bite marks across her body. Crucially, the report highlights 'antemortem drowning,' establishing that the child was still breathing when she was submerged.

The final cause of death has been attributed to a combination of profuse internal bleeding from the head wound and drowning, with water being recovered from her lungs and stomach.

The Incident

The tragedy unfolded on Saturday afternoon when the 11-year-old left her home to purchase a birthday gift for a friend.

After she failed to return, her panicked family lodged a missing persons report at the Baruipur Police Station late at night.

Subsequent CCTV footage retrieved from the locality captured four individuals leading the minor away.

On Sunday, July 5, residents discovered her body packed in a sack, floating in a pond near the railway tracks between Dhabdhabi and Suryapur stations, less than 1.5 kilometers from her residence. The victim’s family alleged that she was gang-raped and choked to death.

Mob Violence, SIT Formation, and Political Response

The discovery of the body triggered widespread protests and violent unrest in the area throughout Sunday. An agitated mob targeted and lynched a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Indrajit Tanti, who succumbed to his injuries.

In response to the escalating tension, the administration has deployed heavy security and imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS): formerly known as Section 144, restricting public gatherings in the Suryapur jurisdiction.

A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to fast-track the probe.

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that two suspects have been formally arrested, while three others remain detained for interrogation.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari contacted the victim’s father via telephone on Sunday to extend condolences and assure a stringent investigation.

The victim’s father stated that the Chief Minister has summoned the family for a formal meeting at the state police headquarters in Bhavani Bhawan on Tuesday.
