‘Vote chiri’: Political cartoons bring laughter in Pathanamthitta

Pathanamthitta: Cartoons capturing the spectacle of political theatrics, campaign promises and the lighter side of election season are drawing attention at ‘Vote Chiri’, an exhibition by cartoonist Shaji Mathew in Pathanamthitta.

Held in the backdrop of the recently concluded Kerala Assembly polls, the exhibition offers a humorous take on the political climate, giving visitors a chance to reflect and laugh while awaiting the results.

Featuring a range of works inspired by contemporary election issues, the exhibition steers clear of targeting individual leaders, instead focusing on broader political themes and public sentiment.

Speaking about his work, Shaji Mathew said, "During this election period, several new issues have emerged, and this cartoon is based on those themes. At the same time, it avoids depicting any specific political leaders. While individuals are not targeted, the cartoon remains purely political in nature. The issues are presented in a manner that allows the common man to laugh, find humour in them."
