Vadodara's Asma Jhabuawala wins 4 gold medals, sets 3 national records at Powerlifting Championship

Vadodara athlete Asma Taherali Jhabuawala has made Gujarat proud with an outstanding performance at the 15th National Sub-Junior and Junior Classic Powerlifting Championships 2026. Competing in the 84+ kg girls’ sub-junior category, Asma secured first place overall by dominating all three events — squat, bench press, and deadlift.

The young athlete won four gold medals and created history by breaking three national records while setting new benchmarks in the bench press, deadlift, and overall performance categories.

Her remarkable achievement came shortly after she completed her Class 12 CBSE examinations, in which she scored an impressive 86.6 percent.

Her coach, Sunny Bavcha, described the feat as a historic accomplishment, noting that no athlete in the championship’s history had previously won four gold medals while simultaneously breaking and creating three national records.

Asma’s success has brought pride to Vadodara and Gujarat, inspiring aspiring athletes across the state.
