The India Art Fair in New Delhi is hosting a rare and meaningful cultural exchange this week, as Indigenous Australian art makes its debut on the Indian art stage.

Celebrated Torres Strait Islander artist and designer Grace Lillian Lee is exhibiting in India for the first time, bringing her distinctive artistic voice to an international audience.

Her collection, titled “Winds of Guardians,” draws inspiration from ancestral wisdom while embracing contemporary design sensibilities. Through sculptural forms, rich textures, and dynamic movement, the works reflect on themes of identity, migration, and protection.

The collection is deeply rooted in traditional techniques handed down by Torres Strait Islander elders, blending cultural heritage with modern artistic expression.

Australian High Commissioner Philip Green said the exhibition highlights how Torres Strait Islander traditions can be reinterpreted through contemporary Australian fashion and design.

Running until February 8, the India Art Fair 2026 provides a platform to celebrate Indigenous Australian heritage while strengthening cultural connections between Australia and India.
