Scientists in Tripura have achieved a significant breakthrough by successfully cultivating sweet black grapes in the state’s challenging climatic conditions, marked by high humidity and acidic soil.

The research, conducted over the past two years by horticulture experts at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Unakoti district, has shown promising preliminary results and opened new possibilities for grape cultivation in the northeastern state.

Speaking about the development, horticulture scientist Dr. Ratan Das said the team’s findings have confirmed that sweet grape varieties can adapt to the region’s unique environment.

He expressed optimism that continued research and refinement of cultivation techniques would help expand grape farming across Tripura in the coming years.

The successful trials have already sparked curiosity among local farmers, many of whom are regularly visiting the vineyard at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra to understand the cultivation process and explore the potential of grape farming as an alternative source of income.
