Centuries ago, Princess Mumal of Lodurva was celebrated for her beauty and grace. Deeply devoted to her, King Mahendra of Amarkot is believed to have crossed vast desert stretches to meet her. Local lore says Mumal would wait for him every day at an ornate podium, watching the horizon for her beloved’s arrival.

However, history and legend intertwine in tragedy. Historians suggest that misunderstandings and doubts over Mumal’s loyalty slowly fractured Mahendra’s trust. The bond that once defied distance began to weaken.

The tale turns heartbreaking when false news of King Mahendra’s death reached Mumal. Overcome with grief, the princess is believed to have died of sorrow. Devastated king, unable to bear the loss, passed away soon after, leaving their love eternally unfulfilled.

Princess Mumal’s legacy lives on in Rajasthan’s cultural memory. In her honour, the Miss Mumal beauty pageant is held annually during the Maru Festival, celebrating grace, courage, and timeless love.

Today, the ruins of palaces in Lodurva stand as silent witnesses. Though stone and sand have weathered centuries, the unrequited love story of Princess Mumal and King Mahendra continues to endure — echoing across Rajasthan and far beyond.
