Rabindra Bhavan in Ranchi: Jharkhand unveils ₹244-crore world-class cultural centre

Jharkhand, a state known for its rich tribal heritage, art, music and cultural traditions, is set to get a long-awaited world-class cultural centre with the construction of Rabindra Bhavan in Ranchi. Built by the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO) under the Urban Development Department, the massive cultural complex has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹244 crore.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to emerge as a major hub for cultural activities in Jharkhand and across eastern India.
Ashutosh Singh, Public Relations Officer, JUIDCO: "It will be inaugurated at the earliest and opened not only for the artists of the state but also for cultural artists from across Eastern India. This will benefit local artists in every way—by providing opportunities for training, for presenting performances, and for holding seminars and discussions."
Rabindra Bhavan showcases Jharkhand’s tribal identity through bold Sohrai art adorning its walls. The complex houses a 1,500-seat auditorium equipped with world-class lighting and sound systems, placing it among the most advanced cultural venues in the region.
In addition to the main auditorium, the complex features an art gallery, library, multipurpose halls, banquet facilities, VIP lounges and dedicated music rooms. It is supported by modern infrastructure such as rainwater harvesting systems, sewage and water treatment plants, fire-safety mechanisms and ample parking space.
Subir Lahiri, Bengali Cultural Artist: "I express my gratitude to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the Jharkhand government for gifting such a magnificent auditorium to the people of Ranchi."
Academicians and writers believe the new infrastructure will significantly enhance creative collaboration and expression.
DR. Kamal Bose, Academician–Writer, Cultural Practitioner: "When the infrastructure is strong, creativity also flourishes. This building is equipped with all modern facilities. When facilities are available, obstacles fade away. Writers, artists, and litterateurs will come here with complete dedication, sit together, and create, thereby strengthening creativity."
Rabindra Bhavan, one of the biggest and most advanced cultural complexes in eastern India, embodies Chief Minister Hemant Soren's goal of making Ranchi a cultural hub. In the years to come, the centre is anticipated to strengthen Jharkhand's literary and artistic identity by giving artists, performers, and cultural enthusiasts a major platform.
