Kerala Assembly Polls 2026: Malayalis in Delhi demand development-focused politics

New Delhi: As Kerala gears up for its Assembly elections, the Malayali community in the national capital is watching developments with keen interest. 

Despite being away from their home state, they remain deeply invested in its political landscape. Conversations around party strategies, governance, and voter sentiment are common among Malayalis in the city.

K Raghunath, President of the Delhi Malayalee Association, which has around 40,000 life members, shared his perspective on the evolving political dynamics.

He noted that the BJP may need to recalibrate its approach if it hopes to make significant gains in Kerala. At the same time, several others in the community believe there is little visible anti-incumbency sentiment against the ruling Left government.

While most Malayalis based in Delhi do not have voting rights in Kerala, they continue to follow political developments closely. Many acknowledge the state’s relatively strong governance record, though some feel there is still room for improvement, particularly in areas related to development and economic growth.

With polling scheduled for April 9 and results expected on May 4, non-resident Keralites across the country, including those in Delhi, are set to remain engaged observers, hoping that development remains a top priority for all political parties.
