The third edition of the Kashmir Literature Festival opened in Srinagar on Saturday, bringing together renowned literary figures, emerging writers, poets, artists and book lovers to celebrate the region’s rich cultural and literary traditions. Held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre, the two-day event was inaugurated by Manoj Sinha.

The festival attracted participants from diverse age groups and professional backgrounds, creating a vibrant platform for discussions on literature, culture, and the enduring spirit of Kashmiriyat. Writers, publishers and readers highlighted the importance of preserving Kashmir’s literary legacy while encouraging fresh voices and new perspectives.

A key focus of the event was the growing presence of young authors exploring contemporary themes and real-life challenges faced by the Valley’s youth, often writing in multiple languages. Speakers described literature as a reflection of society and a medium for understanding diverse viewpoints.

Publishers also noted the continuing appeal of printed books, emphasizing the unique experience of reading and holding a physical book in an increasingly digital world. The festival concludes on Sunday, but its conversations on Kashmir’s literary heritage are expected to inspire audiences well beyond the event.
