School trip horror: 2 teens drown in Cauvery, questions rise over safety lapses
In a heartbreaking incident from Karnataka, two girl students lost their lives after drowning in the Cauvery river near Talakkadu town in Mysuru on Wednesday. A third student, who was rescued, remains in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Charvi (15) and Ramya (16). Both were part of a school group from Bengaluru that had travelled to the riverside location on an excursion. The group reportedly included around 72 students.
According to a local rescuer, the victims were pulled out of the river, and immediate help was sought.
However, due to delays in arranging an ambulance, the rescuers themselves transported the students to a nearby hospital.
“We brought them out and asked the officials to call an ambulance, but they asked us to take them to the hospital. So we ourselves took them, where two were declared dead. One is critical,” the rescuer said.
Authorities are expected to probe the circumstances that led to the drowning and whether adequate safety measures were in place during the trip.
