India Pavilion returns to Venice Biennale after seven-year gap

India has returned to the prestigious Venice Biennale after a seven-year gap, with the India Pavilion drawing global attention for its emotionally resonant and contemporary artistic showcase.

Titled “Geographies of Distance: Remembering Home," the pavilion explores themes of memory, identity, and belonging in a rapidly changing world. Hosted at the historic Arsenale venue, the exhibition presents Indian artistic traditions through a modern lens.

One of the key highlights is artist Sumakshi Singh’s installation “Permanent Address”, a recreation of her recently demolished ancestral home in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar. The artwork reflects personal loss, nostalgia, and the emotional meaning of home.

Union Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal described the pavilion as a vibrant reflection of India’s cultural diversity and evolving contemporary art scene. The exhibition has received praise from international visitors for its depth, innovation, and emotional storytelling.
