Shimla is welcoming December with bright sunshine, chilly winds and festive decorations as tourists arrive in large numbers ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations. The popular hill destination has witnessed a steady rise in visitor footfall, particularly over weekends.

Despite the lively atmosphere, the absence of snowfall has left many tourists disappointed. Visitors say their winter holiday experience feels incomplete without the sight of snow-covered landscapes, a hallmark of Shimla’s peak season charm.

While several tourists are making the most of the pleasant weather, the lack of snowfall has begun to affect tourism-dependent businesses. Local stakeholders note that although weekend crowds have increased, the overall season has been weaker compared to previous years.

Hoteliers, shop owners and tour operators say snowfall plays a crucial role in extending tourist stays and boosting spending. Its absence has raised concerns about livelihoods tied closely to winter tourism.

For now, Shimla continues to celebrate winter without snow. As Christmas and New Year draw closer, those dependent on tourism remain hopeful that a spell of snowfall could revive enthusiasm, attract more visitors and bring much-needed cheer to the local economy.
