How Chhattisgarh’s ‘Seva Dera’ is transforming the lives of tribal women in Bastar

A remarkable transformation is taking shape in Netanar village of Chhattisgarh's Bastar district, where the Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Dera is creating new livelihood opportunities for rural women. Established under the state government's initiative, the former security camp now serves as a centre for food processing, skill development, digital services and agriculture-based enterprises, promoting women empowerment and rural development.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that with the decline of Naxalism, former security camps are being converted into public welfare centres that generate employment and strengthen local economies.

At the Seva Dera, women scientifically process locally sourced tamarind into high-quality pulp, while others use the traditional Dheki to produce rice. They also receive training in packaging, quality management, tailoring and digital services, helping local products reach wider markets.

Beneficiaries say the initiative has improved family incomes, supported children's education, and inspired women to become financially independent, making the Seva Dera a model for inclusive rural development in Bastar.
