Asha Bhosle’s grandson reflects on their close bond; says never used her name for opportunities

Chintu Bhosle, grandson of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, has reflected on their close and honest relationship, noting that he never relied on her iconic name to secure opportunities in his career.

Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most celebrated voices, died on 12 April at the age of 92 from multiple organ failure. She was cremated with full state honours on Monday at the Shivaji Park Crematorium in Mumbai, where several well-known figures, including Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal and Aamir Khan, paid their respects.

Born to classical vocalist and theatre performer Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, Bhosle began singing at a young age and went on to forge a remarkable musical legacy spanning decades. Her work with composer R D Burman, whom she later married, resulted in some of Hindi cinema’s most enduring hits, including ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’ and the countercultural anthem ‘Dum Maro Dum’. (PTI)
