Famous Allahabadi Guavas gear up for peak winter harvest; delight consumers worldwide

Bright green, glossy, and weighing down the branches, Allahabadi guavas are entering their prime harvest season. Despite the city’s official renaming from Allahabad to Prayagraj, the legacy of its iconic guavas, especially the soft, creamy Allahabadi Safeda and the apple-red Surkha, remains as strong as ever.

These famed varieties are cultivated extensively across Prayagraj and neighbouring Kaushambi. The Horticulture Experiment and Training Center at Khusro Bagh continues to support farmers with improved cultivation techniques to boost yield and quality.

Farmers are upbeat this winter, crediting the promising crop to timely rainfall and favourable weather. Additional protective measures, such as pheromone traps to control fruit flies, careful bagging, and meticulous harvesting, are helping ensure the fruit stays spotless and damage-free.

With the peak season arriving in December and January, the much-loved Allahabadi guavas are set to flood markets across India and reach consumers overseas.
