At Aizawl Zoological Park in Mizoram, a remarkable wildlife rescue operation has brought hope for a nine-year-old Bengal tiger named Adyasha, who suffered severe injuries and infection in her lower body.

The condition worsened after maggot infestation set into the wounds, requiring urgent advanced medical intervention. Initial treatment by zoo veterinarians was not enough, and the tiger’s condition continued to decline.

A coordinated effort was then launched involving the Mizoram Forest Department, the Wildlife Institute of India, and state veterinary experts. The team faced challenges due to the need for specialised sedation drugs and the risks involved in treating a fully grown tiger weighing around 200 kilograms.

Despite these hurdles, the team successfully immobilised Adyasha and carried out critical wound cleaning, infection control, and medical treatment.

Experts explained that humid weather and seasonal conditions likely contributed to rapid infection and maggot formation in the open wound.

Following the procedure, officials confirmed that Adyasha is now stable and showing positive signs of recovery. She remains under close observation at the zoo with improved nutrition and care support.
