Times Kangana Ranuat stirred controversy with her comments on Bollywood

Kangana Ranaut has never been one to mince words. Throughout her career, the fiery actress has fearlessly called out Bollywood's elite, sparking debates, and controversies. From nepotism and sexism to hypocrisy and power play, Kangana has tackled it all, refusing to back down. Here, we revisit the times she took on the industry's biggies, shaking the very foundations of Bollywood's status quo.
Calling Bollywood a ‘hopeless’ place: The actor-turned-politician has called the Hindi film industry “a hopeless place” in a latest interview with ‘The Bombay Journey with Mashable India’.
“Bollywood is a hopeless place. Inka kuch nahi hone wala (nothing can be done about it), because they are jealous of other talents, and if they find someone who is talented, they will run behind them and finish them, or they will spoil their career or boycott them,” she said.
The ‘flag-bearer of nepotism’ remark on Karan Johar: The first and possibly the last time when Kangana appeared on Karan Johar’s celebrity talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’ in 2017, she ignited a controversy on nepotism that hasn’t died even today. She had appeared alongside Saif Ali Khan, and called out Karan as the “flag-bearer of nepotism.” Her controversial statement also drew attention to the favouritism that celebrity kids get to kick start their careers.
When she called award shows a “sham”: Time and again, Kangana has spoken against the award shows in Bollywood. The four-time winner of the National Film Awards has called Bollywood award shows a “sham” and “paid.” She has several times spoken about how these shows lack credibility.
“Awards season is here and nepo mafia is at it again, snatching all awards from the deserving talent,” she wrote in a 2023 tweet.
Her explosive statement on drug abuse in Bollywood: When several Bollywood celebrities came under the scanner for drug abuse during Sushant Singh Rajput’s death investigation, Kangana made shocking claims about the Hindi film industry. In an interview with Arnab Goswami, she claimed that drugs flow like water in Bollywood parties, and that most of them do drugs.
“These people promote nepotism, many of them do drugs from childhood and then become actors or directors. Many of these actors, I dated one of them — they go to a place, start with a drink & then go on with drugs. It all starts with a drink, then a roll, and then a pill, then they snort – it’s a secret sign. These actors, their wives move to houses & do drugs, debauchery is unimaginable. I’ve seen how vulgar it becomes and things get out of control at these drug parties.” She told Republic TV.
