Back with a LOL! Trivia you won’t believe about Andaz Apna Apna

As 'Andaz Apna Apna' gears up for its highly anticipated re-release in theaters on April 25, fans are gearing up to relive the madness, comedy, and unforgettable characters that have made this film a cult classic. Initially dismissed as a box-office failure in 1994, the film has since become a cherished gem of Bollywood, revered for its quirky humor, offbeat performances, and iconic one-liners. To celebrate its big-screen return, let’s dive into some fascinating trivia about this comedy masterpiece that will have you seeing the film in a whole new light! From behind-the-scenes quirks to legendary moments, Andaz Apna Apna continues to capture hearts and inspire laughs — and here’s why.
The off-screen tension among the lead actors:
‘Andaz Apna Apna’ features Aamir Khan and Salman Khan as Amar-Prem, and Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon as Karishma-Raveena, respectively. While the on-screen chemistry of the actors is one of the factors behind its cult status, it’s ironic that neither Aamir-Salman nor Karisma-Raveena were on talking terms, reportedly. According to actor Shehzad Khan, who played the role of Bhalla, Aamir and Salman had some differences between them. However, the film’s director, Rajkumar Santoshi, reportedly refuted it, claiming that the two male actors got along well on the sets and became even better friends during the filming. On the other hand, Raveena, once on a reality TV show, revealed that she and Karisma wouldn’t talk to each other during the shooting. She recalled the climax scene where both actresses were tied to a pole, revealing that after the scene was shot, the director decided not to untie them until they started talking to each other. Despite the off-screen tension between the co-stars, their performances were so good that their on-screen chemistry was hugely appreciated.
The film almost didn’t get released:
‘Andaz Apna Apna’, which is every ‘90s kid’s favourite Bollywood comedy, was so delayed with its production that the film almost wasn’t released. It faced several financial crunches with its production, which delayed the film. Further, when the film was finally ready after almost three years, the film’s leading stars - Salman and Aamir - got busy with other projects. The delayed release and the unavailability of the actors for promotions further added to its woes, which led to its unsuccessful stint at the box office.
Shakti Kapoor was not the first choice for Crime Master Gogo:
One of the most iconic characters of Shakti Kapoor’s career is that of Crime Master Gogo from ‘Andaz Apna Apna’. Shakti’s comic timing as “Mogambo ka bhateeja Gogo” is hailed by the audience even today. He has some of the best one-liners in the movie, including “Yeh Teja - Teja kya hai, yeh Teja - Teja?’, “Aaya hu, kuch toh loot kar jaunga… Khandani chor hu main, Mogambo ka bhateeja, Gogo”, Crime Master Gogo naam hai mera. Aankhein nikal kar gotiya khelta hu main,” etc. While Shakti is loved for his performance in the film, he wasn’t the first choice for the character. As per reports, the role of Crime Master Gogo was initially offered to Tinnu Anand. However, since Tinnu was unavailable at the time, the role eventually went to Shakti, and the rest is history!
