‘Toxic’ first reactions: ‘True Pan-India superstar’ or ‘mega boring’? Here’s what netizens say

Yash’s much-awaited ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ has finally reached theatres, and the first reactions from viewers on social media are already divided.

While several moviegoers have praised Yash’s screen presence, the action and the film’s visuals, others have taken issue with its writing, editing and long runtime.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, ‘Toxic’ released worldwide on August 26, 2026. The film marks Yash’s first theatrical release after ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ in 2022 and has been one of the most closely watched Indian releases of the year.

For many viewers, Yash remains the biggest reason to watch ‘Toxic’. His screen presence, action sequences and the larger-than-life moments have received plenty of appreciation in the early reactions.

One viewer wrote, "YASH – A TRUE Pan-India Superstar. Decent setup with strong character establishment. The performances are impressive, while the visuals are absolutely stunning. The film takes its time to build the world and characters."

The film also features Yash in a dual role, while Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth are among the principal cast.

Kiara Advani and Nayanthara also get a mention

The reactions have not been limited to Yash. Some viewers have also highlighted the performances of Kiara Advani and Nayanthara.

One social media user shared, "The first half of Toxic starts with a solid #Yash entry that delivers the expected mass elevation, followed by a few impressive fight episodes. The cinematography, production design and overall setup look good, while #KiaraAdvani and #Nayanthara put in decent performances."

Another viewer praised the emotional side of the film, writing, "The character buildup is solid, Brother and Sister emotional scenes hit you hard, the dialogues are well written and impactful, #Yash Swag and Screen presence and the action sequences are absolutely terrific."

Nayanthara plays Ganga, Yash’s sister, while Kiara Advani appears as Nadia. Their characters are part of the family and emotional conflicts at the centre of the gangster drama.

Not everyone is impressed with the film

The social media response has also brought plenty of criticism. Some viewers have found Toxic too long and felt that the screenplay does not always hold together.

One particularly harsh review read, "#Toxic - Stylish Yash, Circus Stunt, Rich Visuals r only positives in this 3Hrs lengthy Soulless Violent Action Drama. Improper Character Sketch, Forced adult scenes, Random Seq, Poor Dialogues & No Emotional Connect-Nothing works. Dir Geethu delivers a Mega Boring Film. WORST!"

Another viewer took aim at the technical aspects, saying, "The editing is extremely inconsistent. The cuts so chaotic that they can give you a headache. The bg music is also so loud at times that the dialogues become difficult to hear."

Criticism of the film’s screenplay and editing has also appeared in other early social media reactions, with some viewers saying the film struggles to match its scale with a strong emotional story.

Some viewers found Toxic different from a regular mass film

Interestingly, not all the mixed reactions have been negative. Some viewers appear to have appreciated the fact that Toxic does not simply follow the usual commercial cinema formula.

The film had already generated considerable interest before reaching cinemas. Advance bookings were strong, with reported India-tracked opening-day advance gross crossing ₹60 crore on release day, according to reports.

The film also comes with a reported runtime of around 3 hours and 14 minutes and has received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. It has been released in Kannada and in dubbed or subtitled versions across several Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
