Malayalam actor Mamitha Baiju could be heading to Telugu cinema with ‘Jai Hanuman’, the upcoming mythological action film directed by Prasanth Varma and featuring Kannada star Rishab Shetty.

According to a report by 123Telugu, the ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ actor is expected to join the project and has reportedly become part of its ongoing shoot. Neither Mamitha nor the film’s team has confirmed the development officially. Her reported involvement in the film remains unverified at present.

What we know about ‘Jai Hanuman’

‘Jai Hanuman’ is the sequel to Prasanth Varma’s 2024 Telugu superhero film ‘HanuMan’. The next instalment is set to focus on Lord Hanuman, with Rishab Shetty taking on the role of the Hindu deity.

Actor Rana Daggubati is also part of the project, while Teja Sajja, who headlined the first film, is expected to appear in a special role. The original ‘HanuMan’ followed an ordinary young man who acquires powers inspired by Lord Hanuman and uses them to defend his village from hostile forces.

The music for ‘Jai Hanuman’ will be composed by M M Keeravaani, known for his work on several major Indian film productions.

Prasanth Varma expands his cinematic universe

The sequel is among the projects being developed as part of Prasanth Varma’s Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), which took shape following the success of ‘HanuMan’.

The filmmaker has several other ventures in the pipeline. ‘Adhira’, featuring S J Suryah and Dasari Kalyan, has already unveiled its teaser. Another project, ‘Mahakali’, stars Bhoomi Shetty alongside Akshaye Khanna.

Meanwhile, ‘Simba’, featuring Nandamuri Taraka Rama Mokshagnya Teja, is also in development. Together, these projects indicate Varma’s plans to build a connected cinematic franchise around stories and characters rooted in Indian mythology and superhero fiction.

Mamitha Baiju’s upcoming films

Mamitha has been enjoying a successful phase in her career, with projects across the South Indian film industries adding to her growing popularity. Her recent filmography includes Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’, Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath And Sons’ and the Malayalam film ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’, which has been described as one of Malayalam cinema’s highest-grossing releases.

If her reported casting in ‘Jai Hanuman’ is confirmed, the film would mark her entry into Telugu cinema and add another language to her growing body of work.

The actor also has several other projects lined up, including ‘Irandu Vaanam’, the tentatively titled ‘PRS01’ and the Malayalam film ‘Hello Dear’. Her reported association with ‘Jai Hanuman’ could further expand her presence across the South Indian film industries.
