Punjabi singers Karan Aujla, Honey Singh under fire for anti-women lyrics

The Punjab State Women’s Commission has taken suo motu action against Punjabi singers Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh over their songs, which allegedly contain objectionable lyrics referring to women.
Karan Aujla summoned over 'MF Gabhru'
Singer Karan Aujla has come under fire for his recently released track ‘MF Gabhru’, which has sparked controversy for using inappropriate language about women. The Commission noted that such remarks in songs can damage the dignity of women and has issued a notice to Aujla in this matter.
The Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) has been directed to appoint a senior officer to look into the issue. Aujla has also been asked to appear before the Commission on 11 August 2025.
The music video for ‘MF Gabhru’ was officially released on 1 August 2025. The song has been composed, written, and sung by Karan Aujla himself, with music provided by Ikky.
The video has received over 30 lakh views on YouTube. It is being alleged that the song includes language that hurts the dignity of women.
Honey Singh also under scrutiny for ‘Millionaire’
Punjabi rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh is also facing a similar notice from the Commission over his track ‘Millionaire’. The song was released in August 2024 as part of his album Glory, which marked his comeback. The album was presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series.
The Commission has asked both Honey Singh and a Punjab Police officer to appear before it on 11 August at 11:30 AM, and a letter has been sent to the DGP to assign a senior officer to investigate the matter.
The Punjab Women’s Commission has stressed that music is a powerful platform and must not be used to degrade women. In a statement, the Commission said that if music is used to tarnish the image of women, it will not be tolerated.
Both ‘MF Gabhru’ and ‘Millionaire’ have been described as anti-women and containing obscene language.
