Sivakarthikeyan’s much-anticipated film 'Parasakthi' hit theatres on January 10 amid strong pre-release buzz and heightened curiosity surrounding its politically sensitive storyline rooted in the 1965 anti-Hindi protests in Tamil Nadu. Despite the expectations, the film’s opening-day box office performance fell short of industry estimates.

According to early trade reports from Sacnilk, 'Parasakthi' managed to collect only Rs 0.71 crore net in India on its first day. The modest opening came as a surprise, especially given the scale of anticipation around the project and reports of Zoom bookings worth nearly Rs 6 crore before release.

Trade observers suggest that limited screen availability in certain regions and the challenges associated with early morning shows may have impacted the film’s initial turnout.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, the period drama was widely expected to cross Rs 12 crore on day one, driven by Sivakarthikeyan’s star power and the film’s historical and ideological backdrop.

However, audience response from premiere shows indicates that the film has been largely appreciated for its theatrical appeal rather than its box office numbers alone.

Viewers who have watched the film have praised the performances of Sivakarthikeyan and Atharvaa, along with the technical finesse on display.

GV Prakash’s music, Ravi K Chandran’s cinematography, and Sathish Suriya’s editing have drawn particular appreciation, reinforcing the perception that 'Parasakthi' is best experienced on the big screen.

The narrative, which revolves around two brothers placed on opposing ideological paths—one employed by the Railways and the other resisting the Centre’s Hindi imposition—has sparked active discussion among audiences.

While the period setting and performances have been widely lauded, some viewers have pointed out pacing issues in parts of the screenplay. Sreeleela, making her Tamil debut, adds freshness to the cast, while Ravi Mohan’s antagonist role has received a mixed but largely positive response.

With the Pongal festival approaching, trade analysts believe the film’s fate will hinge on weekend collections and word-of-mouth in the coming days. If audience sentiment strengthens, 'Parasakthi' could still see a significant turnaround at the box office during the festive period.
