Filmmaker Vipin Das has expressed strong support for Althaf Salim’s latest directorial venture, Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, describing it as a bold experiment in Malayalam cinema.

The film, starring Fahadh Faasil, Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Lal in lead roles, had hit theatres during Onam but lost out at the box office to Kalyani’s Lokah and Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam.

However, ever since the movie began streaming on Netflix, many viewers have taken to social media, calling it an “unrecognised” gem and predicting that it could eventually become a cult, pathbreaking film.

The latest to praise the film is Vipin Das, the director of notable projects such as Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. Commenting on the film, Das shared his thoughts on Instagram, saying:

"Whether it is cancer or depression, Althaf is one of the rarest directors who can narrate the subject satirically. How beautifully he packed and presented one of the most fearful situations called depression. I know that #oodumkuthirachaadumkuthira wasn't successful in theaters, but I'm damn sure that people will discover this movie after many years and will start talking about it. Althaf, man you deserve one of the top places among Malayalam new wave directors. Waiting for your next."

Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira follows Aby, who, after a wedding-day horse accident leaves him in a year-long coma, embarks on a darkly comic journey exploring depression, recovery, and relationships. (With inputs from Agencies)
