Wayanad native invited by Oscars to join Academy in Visual Effects category

Mananthavady: In a remarkable feat, a Wayanad native has become one of the 398 people selected from different parts of the world this year as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Visual effects supervisor PC Sanath, a native of Mananthavady, is now eligible to vote to choose the films that should be considered for the Oscars. 

Sanath, who worked behind the power-packed scenes in the blockbusters ‘Pulimurugan’ and ‘Bahubali’, is the only Keralite to be invited for membership in the Academy in the 'Visual Effects' category.

The Academy membership is granted in 19 categories including acting, cinematography, writing, direction, costume design, documentary, music, production, film editing, production, design and visual effects. 

So far, Sanath has done visual effects for more than fifty movies, most of them in Tollywood. His last Malayalam venture was ‘Malayankunju’ starring Fahadh Faasil in lead role. 

After graduating from St. Joseph's Devagiri College in Kozhikode, Sanath left the state to follow his passion for movies. He entered the film industry in 1997 after completing a five-year diploma course from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad.

Sanath has also worked as a visiting lecturer in KR Narayanan Institute of Visual Science and Arts and as a member of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata. He also runs a visual effects company, Firefly Creative Studio, in Hyderabad along with his friends.
