Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ to get extended theatrical version with 6 deleted scenes; release next week

The theatrical version of ‘Jana Nayagan’ may not be the final one audiences get to see. Speaking at the film's success meet in Chennai, director H Vinoth revealed that six deleted scenes could be added to theatres as early as next week.

The announcement was made during the film's success meet held in Chennai on Monday, where Vinoth interacted with fans and spoke about the making of the film.

During the event, the host asked the filmmaker whether any scenes had been removed from the final cut. Confirming that several sequences did not make it to the theatrical version, Vinoth said the film has six deleted scenes in total.

"Yes, there are six scenes that we had deleted. There are two fun (comedy) scenes featuring sir (Vijay), two action scenes and two other emotional scenes," he said.

When asked if audiences would get to watch the deleted footage, Vinoth said the decision now rests with the production team. However, he hinted that fans may not have to wait too long.

"It depends on what production has planned," he said.

When the host remarked that the final decision should be the director's, Vinoth replied, "No, I am ready. We will think about adding them from next week or so."

If the plan goes ahead, moviegoers could soon see an updated version of the film in theatres with additional footage that was left out of the original release.

‘Jana Nayagan’ is produced by Venkat K Narayana under the KVN Productions banner. Although the film was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, its release was postponed after the team faced delays in obtaining CBFC certification.

The film also ran into trouble earlier this year after a leaked copy surfaced online in April.

‘Jana Nayagan’ features Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju in the lead, with Nassar, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Narain and Priyamani playing key supporting roles. It is the official remake of the 2023 Telugu hit ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’.

At the box office, ‘Jana Nayagan’ opened with an estimated collection of ₹42 crore on its first day, according to Sacnilk. Collections dipped to around ₹21 crore on the second day before improving over the weekend.

The film earned an estimated ₹28.90 crore on Saturday and ₹32 crore on Sunday, taking its weekend collections to nearly ₹60 crore. However, after the weekend, the film witnessed another noticeable drop in collections on Monday, falling short in the crucial weekday test, as per reports
