This viral teen star from ‘Mahakumbh Mela’ is making her Malayalam film debut

Moni Bhosle, the teen social media sensation who went viral during this year’s Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, is stepping into the world of cinema. Fondly nicknamed “Monalisa” by her fans, the Indore-born teenager is all set to make her Malayalam film debut with Nagamma.
The movie, directed by P Binu Varghese and produced by Jeeli George, will feature actor Kailash—celebrated for his role in Neelathamara (2009)—as the male lead. A traditional pooja ceremony for the film was recently held in Kochi, graced by legendary filmmaker Sibi Malayil, known for classics such as Kireedam (1989), Bharatham (1991), and Kamaladalam (1992). Filming is scheduled to commence by the end of September.
Monalisa herself confirmed the news on Tuesday by sharing photos and videos from the ceremony on social media. This marks the next directorial venture for Binu Varghese after his recent project Himuchri, which starred senior actor Shankar.
Monalisa first captured nationwide attention earlier this year when images and videos of her selling garlands at the Mahakumbh Mela went viral. Her striking presence drew massive crowds, turning her into a trending personality on social media. While her sudden fame sparked debates around the objectification of a teenager, it also cemented her status as a public figure.
In February, she made headlines in Kerala when she inaugurated a Chemmanur Jewellers showroom in Kozhikode. Her appearance drew a massive crowd, and she was even seen dancing alongside the company’s chairman, Boby Chemmanur, to the delight of fans.
Now, with her debut in Nagamma, Monalisa is preparing to transition from viral sensation to mainstream cinema star.
