‘I don’t think there is a black Captain America,’ says Harrison Ford | WATCH

Harrison Ford recently shared his thoughts on the concept of a 'black Captain America' as part of the release of Captain America: Brave New World. The iconic actor’s comments on the subject have sparked widespread discussion on social media.
In a recent interview promoting the film, Ford was asked about working with Anthony Mackie, who portrays the new Captain America, and director Julius Onah. When the interviewer referred to Mackie as the 'black Captain America,' Ford responded, "I don’t think there is a black Captain America. I think there is just a Captain America. He could be red, or green, but he's not. He’s Antony Mackie. He fills the shoes whatever they were. I was there when it happened. For me, he’s Captain America."
Ford’s statement quickly went viral on social media, with many fans and critics sharing their thoughts on the remark.
Social media reacts to Ford's comments
The comments have sparked a wide range of reactions online, with some praising Ford for his inclusive perspective. One user commented, “I like this. This is not being colorblind but valuing a person above identity politics.”
Others echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the importance of focusing on the person, rather than their race, with one commenter quoting Morgan Freeman’s approach to ending racism: “You stop referring to me as a black man, and I’ll stop referring to you as a white man.”
However, some online users disagreed with Ford’s statement, pointing out that for many, particularly within the black community, representation matters. One commenter wrote, “Black people get excited about representation. When we see people like us becoming main characters in popular franchises like this, we're going to talk about it.”
