'The pain and sacrifice in Tovino's smile..' : Cheran talks highly of young Malayalam actor

Narivetta, a hard-hitting movie that depicts the struggles for land, livelihood, and dignity, has earned considerable critical acclaim for its unflinching stance and the larger politics it seeks to depict.
The film assembles an array of actors led by Tovino, and also includes Cheran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Priyamvada Krishnan.
Over the course of the movie, Cheran—a noted director and actor from Kollywood—has developed great admiration for Tovino’s craft and recently spoke highly of him in an interview with The Cue Studio.
“When I watched Uyare years ago, Tovino’s performance struck me. In that moving film, the character he played could often be seen emoting through a gentle smile,” the Kollywood legend said, showering praise on the young Malayalam actor.
“In Uyare, there was pain and sacrifice in that smile by Tovino, and that to me was the sign of a fine, promising actor. And look at how things have transpired—today, I’ve ended up sharing screen space with him. That’s how life throws in surprises,” stated Cheran.
The ace film personality's revelation is a testament to how film stars often hold their colleagues in high regard and share a healthy relationship.
Released in 2019, Uyare tells the story of an acid attack survivor, strikingly portrayed by the ever-brilliant Parvathy.
Meanwhile, Narivetta continues to run successfully in theatres—a testament to the film’s commercial and critical appeal.
