‘The first person is...my Appa’: Jason Sanjay's remark puts Thalapathy Vijay rift rumours to rest?

As Jason Sanjay prepares for the release of his directorial debut, ‘Sigma’, the young filmmaker has been opening up about his journey into cinema, his admiration for composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, and, of course, his father, Thalapathy Vijay.

During a recent conversation with Behindwoods TV, Jason was asked to imagine a Hollywood collaboration. The interviewer posed a fun scenario: what if action star Jason Statham watched ‘Sigma’, loved it, and wanted to work with him? Which Tamil actor would he cast alongside Statham?

Jason didn't take long to answer.

"The first person who comes to my mind is my Appa (Thalapathy Vijay). It will be a great combination. Hope Jason Statham watches this."

Realising how the clip might spread online, he laughed and added that his response would probably become "meme material.

Jason's warm comments about his father have also caught the attention of fans online. Over the past few months, Vijay's personal life has often been the subject of speculation, with unverified reports claiming that Jason was living separately and that the actor was not on good terms with his family.

However, throughout the interview, Jason spoke fondly of Vijay, sharing light-hearted memories and referring to him affectionately as "Appa." While he did not address the rumours directly, his words and demeanour reflected a warm father-son bond.

Jason recalls being a huge Yuvan Shankar Raja fan

The filmmaker also shared a personal memory about his long-time admiration for Yuvan Shankar Raja, who is composing the music for Sigma.

"Back in the day, I used to wear hoodies printed with Yuvan sir's image. I would ask my Appa to click pictures of me wearing the hoodie and send them to Yuvan sir," Jason revealed.

He also confirmed that Yuvan has lent his voice to one of the songs in the film.

Why Jason Sanjay chose filmmaking over acting

Although many expected him to follow Vijay's footsteps as an actor, Jason said his interest always lay behind the camera.

"Since childhood, I had access to film sets. That was my privilege. I had good exposure. I started feeling comfortable there, and visiting sets became normal for me. That's where my interest began," he said.

Interestingly, cinema wasn't always his first choice. Jason revealed that his childhood ambitions changed over the years.

"Initially, I wanted to become a pilot. At one point, I also wanted to be a cricketer. It was only during Class 11 and 12 that cinema started attracting me. By the time I was in college, I knew I wanted to study filmmaking," he shared.
