Following the postponement of Vijay’s highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan due to censorship issues, KVN Productions producer Venkat K Narayana released an official video statement on Friday explaining the sequence of events and apologising to audiences and stakeholders for the unforeseen delay.

“In recent days, we’ve been flooded with calls and messages that highlight how deeply Jana Nayagan is already cherished,” Venkat K Narayana said.

The producer said Jana Nayagan was submitted to the CBFC on December 18, 2025, and initially cleared for a U/A 16+ certificate with minor changes. Despite implementing them, no certificate was issued, and on January 5, 2026, the film was referred to the revising committee following a complaint.

The producer stated that, with time running out and the complainant unknown, they approached the Madras High Court. After hearings on January 6 and 7, Justice PT Asha directed the issuance of a U/A 16+ certificate. However, the CBFC immediately challenged the order, and an interim stay was granted. Following an appeal heard by the Chief Justice, the single judge’s order was stayed, with a verdict expected on January 20. He apologised to audiences, distributors, exhibitors, and stakeholders for the unavoidable delay.

Describing the ordeal as emotionally taxing, he emphasised the film’s importance for Vijay. He said, "This has been an extremely emotional and difficult moment for everyone who has poured their heart, soul, and years of hard work into this film. Above all, we firmly believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell that he has earned through decades of love from his fans and respect from the industry."

Concluding his statement, Venkat K Narayana expressed confidence in the legal process: “We trust the judiciary completely and are hopeful that the film will reach audiences soon. It is the audience’s patience, faith, and constant support that inspire us to resolve these obstacles.”

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Prakash Raj. The film was all set for a clash release with Sudha Kongara’s Parasakthi, which hit theatres worldwide on January 10 as a Pongal release.  (With inputs from Agencies)
