Chennai: The Tamil Actors' Association, Nadigar Sangam, has decided to take strong action to complaints of sexual misconduct. The association plans to establish an 'Internal Complaints Redressal Cell' to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct. If proven guilty, offenders will face a five-year ban from the industry.

The decision was made during a meeting convened to discuss ensuring women's safety in the film industry, in light of the recent release of the Hema Committee Report related to the Malayalam film industry.

The Nadigar Sangam will ensure all necessary steps to provide legal support to the victims of misconduct. A dedicated email and phone number will be set up for the Internal Complaints Redressal Cell, allowing individuals to report incidents directly. Complaints will be forwarded to cyber police for further action. Additionally, there is a warning that complaints should be first submitted to the Nadigar Sangam and not disclosed to the media.

These decisive steps by the Nadigar Sangam come in contrast to the ongoing inaction by associations in the Malayalam film industry, even after the release of the Hema Committee Report. The meeting of the Nadigar Sangam was held on Wednesday at 11 am in Chennai. The association's leadership includes actors Nassar (President), Vishal (Secretary), and Karthi (Treasurer).
