Kochi: Tamil actor Suriya arrived in Kochi on Sunday morning to pay his last respects to legendary Malayalam actor, writer and filmmaker Sreenivasan, describing him as a lifelong inspiration whose cinema and writing will endure in public memory.

Suriya reached Sreenivasan’s residence at Kandanaad in Udayamperoor, where the final rites are being held, and offered floral tributes. The actor is currently in Ernakulam in connection with the shooting of a Tamil film.

Suriya said he had admired Sreenivasan since childhood and felt a strong urge to see him one last time after learning about his death. He noted that he had closely followed all of Sreenivasan’s films and believed the late artist’s cinema and writing would continue to live on in people’s minds.

Five decades of cinematic influence

Sreenivasan, one of Malayalam cinema’s most distinctive voices as an actor, writer and filmmaker, passed away earlier on Saturday. His death marked the end of a five-decade career that reshaped the moral and emotional grammar of popular cinema in Kerala.

The funeral is scheduled for Sunday morning with state honours at his residence in Kandanaad, Udayamperoor. Family members, colleagues and admirers are gathering to bid a final farewell to the celebrated artist.
