Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Hema Committee report, Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra has come forward with serious allegations against prominent Malayalam film director Ranjith.

Mitra, who was initially involved in the production of the 2009-10 film Paleri Manikyam, claimed that Ranjith behaved inappropriately during the shoot, leaving her fearful and distressed.

According to reports, Mitra revealed that she was intimidated by Ranjith’s actions, which led her to feel unsafe spending the night at the hotel where she was staying. “I lodged a complaint about the incident with documentary director Joshi. However, no one followed up on the complaint and no action was taken,” Mitra said.

The actress also alleged that her objections to Ranjith’s behaviour resulted in her being denied opportunities in Paleri Manikyam and other Malayalam films. She reported that she was left without money for her return journey and had to travel home alone the next day.

Mitra has urged others who have experienced similar violence to come forward and file complaints. She also suggested that panels like the Hema Committee, which addresses misconduct in the industry, should be made available in other languages to ensure broader access and support for victims.

Meanwhile, the director reportedly refuted these allegations.

Ranjith is a prominent Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor in Malayalam cinema. He launched his directorial career in 2001 with Ravanaprabhu, a sequel to Devaasuram. He currently serves as the chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.
