‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ smashes opening day record with $168 million, beats ‘Avengers: Endgame’
Tom Holland's ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has made Marvel history with a record-breaking debut at the North American box office. The highly anticipated fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film has earned $168 million on its opening day in the US, surpassing the long-standing opening day record set by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019.
The massive start has positioned the Marvel-Sony blockbuster to potentially rewrite even more box office records over its opening weekend.
‘Brand New Day’ overtakes ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on opening day
The film got off to a phenomenal start with $72 million from Thursday previews and advance screenings, setting a new all-time record for preview collections. The previous benchmark belonged to ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which collected $60 million during its previews in 2019.
On Friday alone, ‘Brand New Day’ added more than $95 million, taking its opening day total to $168 million. Sony officially confirmed the figure, making it the highest opening day collection ever recorded in North America, ahead of Endgame's $161 million opening day.
Weekend box office record now within reach
Early projections had estimated the film would collect around $180–190 million in its domestic opening weekend. As advance bookings surged, those estimates were revised to $250 million.
Following the record-breaking opening day, Sony has now increased its weekend forecast to $300 million. However, trade analysts believe the studio's estimate is still conservative.
Industry projections suggest the film could earn nearly $99 million on Saturday, taking its two-day domestic total to around $267 million. If it collects approximately $90 million on Sunday, ‘Brand New Day’ will surpass Avengers: Endgame's all-time opening weekend record of $357 million in North America. Most trade experts expect the film to comfortably cross the $350 million mark.
Strong performance continues in India
The superhero blockbuster has also been performing exceptionally well at the Indian box office. Released in India on July 30, a day ahead of its US debut, the film has collected approximately ₹176 crore net (around ₹211 crore gross) in its first three days.
Its early earnings have already outpaced the opening three-day collections of several major Hindi blockbusters, including ‘Pathaan’, ‘Tiger 3’, ‘Dangal’, and ‘Dhurandhar’, highlighting the film's massive popularity among Indian audiences.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ sees Tom Holland return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, now living completely on his own after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, in a world where no one remembers his identity.
The film also features Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, and Jon Bernthal in key roles.
